Exhibited at Design Miami, in the Cristina Grajales Gallery, these 3D printed furry light fixtures are intended to inspire intense happiness and pleasure. During Covid 19, many of us were afraid to touch things and to touch each other and we lived with the darkness of loss and life. These 3D-printed furry totems are a reaction against that fear and darkness. They are luminous, they are joyful and vibrant, and they beg to be petted.
These pieces crafted from recycled wood in the form of sawdust mixed with bioplastic, recycled food packaging waste, and some agricultural residues such as pomegranate seeds.
Each totem is covered with 3D-printed hair. Hair and fur are soft and comforting and furry skin is hard-wired for petting and stroking sensations, creating intense pleasure when touched by both the receiver and the giver.
These 3D-printed furry light fixtures elicit feelings of intense domestic pleasure and security because of their shaggy texture. The bio-plastic parts are made of vibrant colors that are lively and high energy, and the natural wood filament brings a sense of warmth and harmony to each piece and especially to the forest as a whole ecosystem.
