The Sexy Beasts are co-botic vessels that demonstrate how robots and humans can work together to exploit the opportunities and limitations that occur when 3D printing with clay. No two vessels will ever be the same.
These vessels are 3D printed out of a local clay body called Red Velvet from Northern California, where the artist is located, and white earthenware is either left untreated or dyed Rose, Blush, Red, or Salmon. Each vessel is a balayage of color and shades from the organic and earthy red to the more synthetically colored pinks or white at either the top or bottom.
The robot 3D prints the digital design of the vessel while the artist interacts with each piece by cutting the strands of clay into a sexy shag and then blow-drying them after they are printed to modify the outcome. In this way, each beast is completely unique, designed by both robot and human, working together.
The Sexy Beasts are represented by the Cristina Grajales Gallery in New York City.
